Budapest post feature race penalties
Both Racing Engineering drivers penalised
What should have been a great day for Racing Engineering turned out to be a disappointing one after both of their drivers were handed post-race penalties.
First, Raffaele Marciello was found guilty of overtaking Stoffel Vandoorne under the Safety Car. The Italian driver passed the Belgian before the first Safety Car line.
Secondly, the Stewards considered that Stefano Coletti forced Julian Leal off the track at Turn 12 in the early stages of the race. The Carlin man had the right of line and the Monegasque driver didn’t leave enough room for him resulting in a collision between them which ended Leal’s race prematurely.
Both Racing Engineering drivers received a Drive Through and therefore 20 seconds have been added to their elapsed race time. Coletti classifies 18th whilst Marciello now classifies 19th.
As a consequence, Adrian Quaife-Hobbs is now classified second and Takuya Izawa third – his first podium finish in GP2. Tom Dillmann and Marco Sorensen finish P9 and P10 respectively with the Frenchman scoring two extra bonus points for fastest lap. Finally, Nathanaël Berthon will start from reverse pole tomorrow.
