Haryanto and Nasr to test for Carlin

Haryanto and Nasr to test for Carlin

British team announce line up for post season test

Rio Haryanto and Felipe Nasr will join Carlin for the first official GP2 post season test in Barcelona this week. Having seen the recent graduation of Max Chilton to Formula 1 Reserve Driver, Carlin welcome Nasr to the team for the two day test where he will join Haryanto who took a brilliant pole position in Spa for Carlin during his 2012 rookie season.

2012 was Carlin’s second season in the prestigious Formula 1 feeder series and saw the team take two brilliant wins in the hands of Chilton who has since joined the Marussia F1 team as their official reserve driver. Finishing fifth in the team standings Carlin now prepare for the first official GP2 post-season test as they look forward to carrying on the momentum of their most successful year in the Series to date.

Joining the team for the two day test in Barcelona will be Nasr and Haryanto – both of whom have spent a year competing in the GP2 Series.

Making a very welcome return to Carlin for the test will be Haryanto, who took an impressive pole position at the notoriously difficult Spa-Francorchamps circuit earlier this year. With the rain falling heavily 19 year old Haryanto was the man to beat and took no prisoners on his way to his maiden pole position. Already familiar with the team, Haryanto remains with Carlin for the two day test to continue the successful partnership from the 2012 season.

Nasr has previous experience driving with Carlin having won the British Formula Three International Series in 2011 with races to spare. He subsequently went on to take second place for the team during the Macau Grand Prix last year and has since spent the 2012 season racing in the GP2 Series with DAMS. Although luck hasn’t always been on his side this year, he took four podium positions on his way to a top 10 finish in his rookie season. Nasr will also be contesting the Macau Grand Prix with Carlin once again next month.

Looking forward to joining the team for the test, Nasr said “I’m delighted to be testing with Carlin this week.  Obviously we have a good history together, having won the 2011 British F3 title, and I’m joining the team for the Macau Grand Prix next month. This will be my first chance to drive the Carlin GP2 car though, and I’m very happy to be testing with a team I know so well.  I’m excited to see how the car feels and to get back the behind the wheel of a GP2 car.  It already seems like too long since Singapore!”

Haryanto added, “This year was a big learning curve for me, but I’m interested now to build on what I learnt over the season with this week’s test. There’s quite a lot to get through and lots of decisions to be made about the future, but I’m excited to be driving the GP2 car again.  Hopefully we will have some dry weather and we’ll be able to make the most of the two days.”

This week’s test will take place from the 30 – 31 October.
